Michigan High School Coach's Spotlight
Marc White - Pontiac Notre Dame Prep Division 2 State champs
Marc White led Notre Dame Prep to the Division 2 state championship in his first year at the helm for the Irish. Although 2009 was his first year as head coach, the PGA professional has been working with many of the players for years. The 200 Division 2 golf state championship was historic for the Irish as it was the school's first boy's state championship in any sport.
After a 24 stroke victory going away in their District, Notre Dame Prep prepared for the pressure of the state finals with a tight one stroke victory in the Regional. The Irish outlasted Haslett for a three stroke win in the finals.
The long time golf instructor enjoyed his first season leading the Irish for many of the same reasons he enjoys being a golf instructor. "I like teaching and working with the players and seeing their hard work rewarded" coach White said.
Following the philosophy of many successful coaches in various sports that you win with talent and good players, coach White said he looks for three things in potential members of his golf program, "talent, experience and attitude."
Coach White is also quite succinct when it comes to what he would like to see his players do in their off season, "compete and work on their game."
